WHAT IS ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS
This is the most sought after anti ageing treatment, commonly referred to as Botox. Anti wrinkle injections are used to smooth lines and reduce wrinkles by paralysing the underlying muscle.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Botulinum toxin (Botox) is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and related species. It prevent the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from axon endings at the NMJ, thus causing flaccid paralysis.
Injection of botulinum toxin into the muscles under facial wrinkles causes relaxation of those muscles, resulting in the smoothing of the overlying skin.Smoothing of wrinkles is usually visible three to five days after injection, with maximum effect typically a week following injection. Muscles can be treated repeatedly to maintain the smoothed appearance.
Licensed brands of Botulinum Toxin A include Botox, Azzalure, Bocouture, Xeomin, Dusport. All Botulinum Toxin are prescription only Medicine (POM) and can only be prescribed by Doctors, Dentist , prescriber nurses and pharmacists with prescribing qualifications following a face to face consultation and assessment.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED ?
Botulinum toxin is considered safe and effective for reduction of facial wrinkles, especially in the upper third of the face. With advance training Botulinum toxin can be used to treat gummy smile, chin dimples, platysmas bands, contour the jaw line by muscular atrophy of masseter and hyperhydrosis.
It is important to note that anti wrinkle injections will not work on wrinkles that are caused by skin laxity and severe loss of volume. An alternative treatment such as dermal fillers or other cosmetic interventions should be considered for those.
AM I SUITABLE FOR THE TREATMENT
Your Practitioner/Injector will take a detailed medical history and perform assessment at the initial
appointment. If you have any underlying health condition, your practitioner will decide if it is safe for
you to undergo the treatment. This must be done FACE TO FACE by a licensed prescriber as
botulinum toxin is a POM.
